Abandoned motorcycle, several crashes lead to severe traffic on Highway 26

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A series of crashes on Highway 26 Wednesday morning have led to severe traffic near the Oregon Zoo and Sylvan exits.

According to Portland Police, it began when officers responded to a report of a motorcycle down in the middle of the highway overnight.

When authorities arrived at the scene they found the motorcycle but no rider. They said they believe the motorcyclist fled on foot.

A deputy from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene and their vehicle was then hit by another motorist.

At the same time, slightly up the road near the Sylvan exit, authorities said an SUV ran into a street sweeper that was abandoned on the side of the road, after which the SUV also hit a pickup truck.

Officials said the people in the SUV had to be extricated from the vehicle and were taken to a hospital with serious, however non-life-threatening, injuries.

There are no other reported injuries.
