Abandoned building blocks from Texas Capitol catches fire overnight

Austin firefighters extinguished a blaze at an abandoned commercial building a few blocks from the Capitol on Congress Avenue early Tuesday.

The Austin Fire Department said the blaze at 907 Congress Avenue began shortly after midnight and that it was under control by 1 a.m. Officials said no one was injured and that no cause of the fire had been determined.

Officials first reported that fire was at 903 Congress Ave. but later corrected the address.

At 1:07 a.m., crews transitioned to overhaul operations to combat hot spots, officials said.

The Austin Fire Department said just before 2 a.m. that two crews would remain at the scene overnight to extinguish any hot spots.

Fire officials said the investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
