AAA Michigan says gas prices fall by 20 cents a gallon over past week

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) -- AAA Michigan says gasoline prices have fallen about 20 cents during the past week to a statewide average of about $3.45 per gallon.

The auto club says Monday the average is about 3 cents per gallon more than this time last year.

AAA Michigan estimates that nearly 1.4 million Michigan residents will travel during the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, down about 1 percent from last year. The drop is seen as being because the holiday is on a Thursday. Most are expected to travel by personal vehicle.

Of the cities it surveys, AAA Michigan says the cheapest price for self-serve unleaded fuel is in the Traverse City area, where it's about $3.30 a gallon. The highest average is in Marquette area at about $3.56 a gallon.
