A24’s ’20th Century Women’ Sets Christmas Debut

EXCLUSIVE: A24’s 20th Century Women from Beginners director/writer Mike Mills is getting a Christmas day release in New York and Los Angeles before going wide on Jan. 20. Set in Santa Barbara, the movie follows three women played by Annette Bening, Elle Fanning and Greta Gerwig who raise an adolescent boy (newcomer Lucas Jade Zumann) during a pivotal summer in 1979. Billy Crudup also stars. 20th Century Women is also premiering at the New York Film Festival on Saturday, Oct. 8 as the event’s centerpiece gala. The movie joins such specialty releases during the Christmas corridor as Sony Pictures Classics’ Julieta, Lionsgate’s Patriot Day (Dec. 21); Paramount’s Silence and Focus Features’ A Monster Calls (Dec. 23). A24 acquired U.S. distribution rights on 20th Century Women back in June. Pic is produced by Chelsea Barnard, Anne Carey, Megan Ellison and Youree Henley. Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures also financed. The trailer for 20th Century Women drops tomorrow. Beginners won an Oscar, Golden Globe, SAG award among many others for Christopher Plummer’s supporting role.
