A high school senior in 1993 made an amazing 2016 Cubs prediction
What was the senior quote you had printed under your yearbook photo when you graduated high school? Was it song lyrics? A meaningful quote? Perhaps a poignant “See ya later, suckers!!!” All great options. But 23 years ago, one guy decided to make a World Series prediction. And now it has a chance to come true.
This post went viral on Reddit on Tuesday morning, and it features a photo from the 1993 Mission Viejo High School yearbook. It’s of a guy named Michael Lee, and just under his photo you can see his prediction.
This was predicted by a guy at Mission Viejo High School in California in his senior quote…in 1993. It’s been verified by several people I went to high school with. from pics
His prediction is:
“Chicago Cubs. 2016 World Champions. You heard it here first.”
It’s not a Photoshop creation, either. It’s been verified by other people who own the same yearbook.
*mom walks into my room* -look at my yearbook from '93 #…
This dude called the cubs winning the series in 2016 for his senior quote. pic.twitter.com/Dq4kWFIziy— Thomas j Dale (@tommydale33) October 25, 2016
Why did he pick 2016? And the Cubs? Was he a Cubs fan? We have no idea, because Michael Lee hasn’t come forward to talk about his prediction. And that might be a good thing, since his prediction could also be called a jinx.
But there’s no way I’m calling this a jinx. This guy put that quote under his yearbook picture 23 years ago, and there was no way he could have known that the Cubs would actually be in the position to win the World Series in 2016. Teenagers say weird things under their yearbook photos! In my high school, people used wrestling quotes and lines from “Scary Movie.” There were Dave Matthews Band and Marilyn Manson and Backstreet Boys song lyrics. It’s a place for silliness, it’s not a place where jinxes are born.
So take a deep breath, Cubs fans. Other than being a cool coincidence, this means nothing. And if the Cubs win, it’s time to find this guy and ask him to tell us what the future will hold, since he clearly knows. At the very least he should tell us the winning lottery numbers.
