Paging Woodward and Bernstein. And, maybe Ben and Jerry while we're at it. Your investigative talents are needed in Washington, D.C. Somebody from inside Congress — we don't know who — has updated the Choco Taco page on Wikipedia.
All Wikipedia edits are done anonymously, but a Twitter bot keeps track of the changes made from IP addresses in the U.S. Congress. Most of the time, those edits are run-of-the-mill stuff. Things like updates to politicians, historical entries, bills, etc. Blah, blah, blah.
But on Monday, somebody, perhaps with a little too much time on his or her hands, edited the entry for the iconic ice cream dessert that's shaped like a taco, the Atlantic reported.
Choco Taco Wikipedia article edited anonymously by US House of Representatives http://t.co/QzECJYjf6v— congress-edits (@congressedits) July 14, 2014
Wikipedia keeps track of changes, and in this case the alteration was relatively minor. Basically, somebody with inside knowledge of lawmakers' snack habits added this bit of trivia to the Choco Taco entry:
In addition, Choco Tacos have been a staple of vending machines in the Rayburn House Office Building of the [[U.S. House of Representatives]] honoring former Speaker [[Samuel Rayburn]]'s devotion to his favorite snack.
Good to know.
By Wednesday, the surreptitious addition had been removed. Of course, trying to figure out who edited the page is a silly exercise. Still, one has to giggle at the thought of somebody working on the Hill taking a few moments to put together an addendum to the entry for the beloved ice cream truck favorite.
And it makes you wonder: What are the favorite frozen desserts of other members of Congress?
Now, for some wild speculation:
Rep. Dan Maffei (D-N.Y.), who was born on July 4, must love red, white and blue Firecrackers.
Bufftastic Michael Grimm (R-N.Y.), who once threatened to break a reporter in half, prefers frozen Kit Kat bars he can throw from balconies.
And finally, Rep. John Boehner can't get enough orange-flavored Creamsicles. No comment.
