HUNTSVILLE, AL--(Marketwire -10/12/11)- Synapse Wireless®, Inc. announced today that David Ewing, Chief Technology Officer, has been named to the IPSO Alliance Technical Advisory Board (TAB). IPSO is the primary advocate for IP networked devices used in energy, consumer, healthcare and industrial applications. TAB provides for the technical oversight of IP Smart Objects and for the review of progress made by relevant standardization groups. Synapse, with its embedded wireless and cloud-connectivity products based on its SNAP® network operating system, has been prescient in providing a seamlessly connected IP infrastructure and robust platform for developers to build the Internet of Things.
Joining fellow new TAB members from Oracle, Ericsson and four other companies, Mr. Ewing brings a career-long passion of extending TCP/IP into the embedded world. "David's experience with IP routing technology was instrumental in helping with the development of Synapse's award-winning SNAP OS for mesh networks," said Wade Patterson, CEO and founder of Synapse Wireless. "With the increasing acceptance of IPv6, David brings to IPSO the practical perspective of a technologist who understands the implementation of standards along with having broad exposure to embedded wireless applications in the field."
"I am looking forward to working with David on the newly reformed TAB," said Geoff Mulligan, Chairman of the IPSO Alliance. "David's expertise will be very helpful as our TAB takes on the challenges of providing technical expertise to the IPSO Alliance."
Synapse is a 'Promoter' member of the IPSO Alliance. IPSO is a global, non-profit organization serving the various communities seeking to establish the Internet Protocol as the network for the connection of Smart Objects. IPSO's purpose is to provide a foundation for industry growth through building stronger relationships, fostering awareness, providing education, promoting the industry, generating research and creating a better understanding of IP and its role in building the Internet of Things.
Synapse is renowned for its ability to get data to the Cloud at the lowest cost while providing ease in creating applications to access that data and to securely control its source. Synapse was the first company to design a wireless mesh network operating system fundamentally architected to support a bridge to native TCP/IP protocol. Called SNAP, these networks are self-forming, self-healing and form a true peer-to-peer network; routes between SNAP nodes do not have to be pre-configured by the user. Applications are written in Python using the free, Portal development environment and can be deployed over-the-air. Synapse's new Cloud Services provide for a secure, reliable and scalable infrastructure for devices on a wireless SNAP network to be easily connected to client applications and build their 'Internet of Things' from anywhere in the world.
At Synapse David Ewing is responsible for transforming new ideation and cutting-edge technology into pragmatic, well-engineered products. Mr. Ewing holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Auburn University.
