A cougar attacked two mountain-bikers in Washington state Saturday morning, killing one and seriously injuring the other. The cougar was found standing over the man’s body before it ran from wildlife officials, reported USA Today. Wildlife officials with the help of two dogs tracked down and killed the 100-pound male cougar, who was 3 or 4 years old.
Police announced the arrests of two people Saturday in a fatal shooting outside a high school graduation ceremony in Georgia. One woman was killed and another was wounded by gunfire Friday night following an argument in a high school parking lot across from the Clayton County Performing Arts Center, where the Perry Career Academy had just held its commencement for graduating seniors. Two friends on a morning mountain bike ride 30 miles (48 kilometres) east of Seattle were attacked by a cougar, killing one of the men and leaving the second hospitalised. A 62-year-old man was under arrest for murder in North Carolina Monday after he allegedly excused himself from a restaurant lunch with his family, then rammed them with his car at high speed -- killing his daughter and daughter-in-law. Roger Glenn Self, of Dallas, North Carolina, is being held on two charges of first-degree murder, the Gaston County Sheriff's Office said. According to the Gaston Gazette, Self was seated with his family at the Surf and Turf Lodge in Bessemer City, near Dallas, on Sunday when he excused himself.

The only three survivors of Cuba's worst aviation disaster in three decades were clinging to life Saturday, a day after their passenger jet crashed in a fireball in Havana's rural outskirts with 113 people on board. Two foreign climbers attempting to scale Mount Everest have died on the world's highest peak, a Nepal mountaineering official said Monday. Members of their expedition teams reported a Japanese climber died Monday and a Macedonian died on Sunday, said Gyanendra Shrestha, who is stationed at Everest's base camp during the climbing season and received the reports of the deaths. The Japanese climber was identified as 35-year-old Nobukazu Kuriki and the Macedonian as 63-year-old Gjeorgi Petkov.
