911 calls released in east Charlotte shooting that killed 4 law enforcement officers

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Several 911 calls have been released Thursday by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police in connection to the violent Shannon Park shooting in east Charlotte that claimed the life of four members of a U.S. Marshals Task Force.

In one of the 911 calls, a caller appears to be out of breath while trying to find out what is happening in the neighborhood.

911 Operator: Charlotte 911, do you need police, fire, or medic?

Caller: Can you hear me?

911 Operator: I can hear you now.

Caller: OK, I’m sorry. There are, I believe, U.S. Marshals.

911 Operator: You stay down. I see where you are. There is a shooting going on. You stay down and stay low. Officers are on the scene. Umm, stay low.

Caller: *Incomprehensible*

911 operator: There’s a lot going on out there where you are. I just recommend that right now you stay low and stay inside. There is a shooting in the area, an active shooting going on, OK? So, you gotta just be safe. Take a deep breath. I’m sorry that this is happening to you guys. Officers are involved in the shooting, OK? There’s a whole scene going on. You gotta be safe.

The deadly shootout happened on April 29, 2024, just before 2 p.m. along Galway Drive. Residents in the area were asked to avoid the scene or not leave their homes due to the active gunfire in the neighborhood that continued for several hours before the suspect was fatally shot.

The four law enforcement officers who were killed and have all since been laid to rest are:

  • CMPD Officer Joshua Eyer

  • NC Department of Adult Corrections Investigator Samuel Poloche

  • NC Department of Adult Corrections Investigator William Alden Elliott

  • Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas Weeks Jr.
