A 9-year-old child died on Friday Nov. 17, after a metal gate fell on top of them, according to the Pima County Sheriff's Office.

Officials said that on Nov. 17, at approximately 2:22 p.m., deputies from the Pima County Sheriff's Department responded to Centennial Elementary School for a reported child injury.

Deputies said they found a 9-year-old child with "severe trauma" upon their arrival. Officials said life-saving measures were administered until the Northwest Fire Department arrived on scene. The Sherrif's Office said the child was transported to a hospital where they died from their injuries.
