9-year-old boy from Eunice catches 50-pound snapping turtle in Jeff Davis Parish
(KLFY)– A 9-year-old caught a 50-pound snapping turtle in a Jeff Davis Parish swamp Sunday.
Colt Smith of Eunice has been running catfish nets with his dad Sam Smith, a commercial fisherman for some time, but this year, Smith started taking the reins and now runs a few nets of his own, which led him to his catch of the day Sunday.
According to the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection, an average adult snapping turtle can weigh between 10 to 35 pounds.
Smith was not only thrilled about his impressive find, but he told his dad he was going to be thanking God in his prayers for giving him the chance to experience that moment.
