9-1-1 star Oliver Stark has slammed some negative reactions to his character coming out as bisexual.

Stark's firefighter Evan 'Buck' Buckley shared a kiss with Tommy Kinard (Lou Ferrigno Jr) in the latest episode of the procedural, titled 'Buck, Bothered and Bewildered'.

While the majority of 9-1-1 fans were delighted with Buck's bisexuality, some viewers have been vocal in criticising the storyline.

Taking to his Instagram Stories after the episode aired, Stark thanked fans for the support they've shown to Buck, writing: "Humbled and overwhelmed by the positive reaction to Buck's storyline. I've read so many of your messages and I couldn't be prouder."

However, he also addressed those few commentators insisting they would stop watching 9-1-1 following the episode.

"If you are one of the smaller group of people commenting on my posts about how this has ruined the show. I would like you to know that I truly don't care," Stark said.

"This is a show about love and inclusion. It's featured queer relationships from the very beginning including a beautiful Black lesbian marriage played out by two of the best actresses [Aisha Hind and Tracie Thoms] I've ever watched," the actor continued.

"If one other character finding a new facet to his sexuality and realizing his bisexuality is your deal breaker – I fear you've missed the entire point of the show. You are not required to announce your departure."

Meanwhile, many 9-1-1 fans have taken to social media to share their excitement over Buck's bisexuality being canon, with one viewer calling the story "probably the biggest thing that's happened in the entire 9-1-1 universe".

Speaking to Variety, Stark said that Buck will "obviously have some questions for himself, and for others" in upcoming episodes, and will experience "different reactions" towards his bisexuality from other characters.

"Some will be surprised, and some will not be so surprised. But it's very true to the world of 9-1-1 that he will lean on those around him, and will receive the support that he needs," he added.

9-1-1 airs on ABC in the US, while 9-1-1: Lone Star airs on FOX. Both are available on Hulu in the US, and Disney+ in the UK.
