82-year-old bicyclist killed in Myrtle Beach was an avid biker in the name of charity

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The 82-year-old bicyclist who died after crashing his bicycle into a legally parked trailer in the Augusta Plantation area in Myrtle Beach on Valentine’s Day was an avid bicyclist who traveled to various places in the name of charity.

John Edward Farr, 82, of DuBois, PA, died February 19, five days after the accident at Grand Strand Medical Center.

Farr had a mission to revive and sustain Habitat for Humanity of Clearfield County, where his various roles included: Board President, Construction Supervisor, and continual supporter and advocate, according to his online obituary.

Farr went on more than 20 yearly bicycle trips to raise funds in support of Habitat’s mission. He also founded and organized the “King of the Mountain” bicycle race, an annual Habitat fundraiser, according to his obituary.

Farr’s lifelong mission was to help others and even in his death, Farr continues to help others as his tissue donations impact more than 100 lives, his obituary said.

Visitation will be held March 2, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., according to his obituary.

A private funeral service will be held for Farr, and his burial will take place at St. Catherine Cemetery.

The family is appreciative of flowers but would prefer memorial contributions to Habitat for Humanity of Clearfield County (PO Box 463, DuBois, PA 15801) or a charity of the donor’s choice, the obituary said.

Online condolences can be sent to www.baronickfuneralhome.com.
