8 websites to find recipes that will shake up your food rut for good

Even if you love cooking and eating, it’s hard to keep your food game fresh. Buying the same old stuff at the grocery store and cooking up the same old dishes gets super old, even though it happens to all of us at some point (or always). This is why it’s good to check out some websites to find recipes before you hit the grocery store, so you can change it up when you feel like it.

Food is way too good to be eating the same stuff, prepared the same way, all the time.

If you have something in mind that you want to make, it’s easy to plug it into Google and get a whole bunch of recipes to compare from. But if you’re just hangry and don’t know what you feel like eating, it’s not so simple. Which is why we totally recommend sites from food bloggers, home cooks, and cookbook authors to get some inspiration. A lot of the websites also allow you to search recipes by ingredient, so you can let the pros help you figure out to do with those garlic scapes you couldn’t help but buy at the market but have absolutely no idea what to do with. It happens.

Here are some places to start brainstorming.

1. Food 52

Foodies will likely know all about Food 52. It’s one of the largest community of cooks on the internet. In addition to a great user community that tests and tweaks each recipe (so you can figure out substitutions on the the fly), you can literally find recipes for anything here. And the pictures and the blogs can distract you while you wait for the water to boil.

2. Tastespotting

Tastespotting uses a bot to aggregate recipes from all over the internet, so it’s basically browsing all of those food blogs out there that you might not know how to find. It has an image-based homepage, so you can scroll through and see what’s good, then click through to the recipe’s original site. It’s a great way to discover some new favorite food and lifestyle bloggers to follow.

3. Smitten Kitchen

Smitten Kitchen is run out of a tiny New York City kitchen, which is sort of unbelievable, since the recipes look fancy AF. You can also sign up for the weekly newsletter to just get recipes delivered into your inbox.

4. 101 Cookbooks

This site is run by James Beard cookbook author winner Heidi Swanson and includes recipes for super simple, whole, and healthy foods. You can search by ingredient, season, or look stuff up in the recipe index so you won’t miss out on any delicious recipe.

5. Yummly

Yummly is another site with tons of user generated recipes and a strong community of home cooks chiming in about what worked. Whether you want to make “better than takeout fried rice” or need a new salmon grilling technique, Yummly is the place to go for sure.

6. Epicurious

You’ve probably seen Epicurious pop up in your search results basically every time you try to Google something about cooking. That’s because not only is there a treasure trove of recipes, they also have instructions on some cooking basics and tips that will ensure you do not mess up dinner.

7. The Kitchn

This website is another gem when it comes to finding recipes — ranging from super simple to show off to your friends. There’s also other lifestyle content, like home decor and travel.

The name pretty much says it all. They cover food news, but also focus on making cooking as easy as possible. No-bake desserts, easy weeknight dinners, and slideshows of 20+ summer pasta dishes is what this site is all about.

No matter what you end up cooking, we’re sure it’s going to be delicious.
