8 Upcoming New TV Shows you won’t want to miss

It’s been a bumper year for TV in 2016.

‘Game of Thones’ has just ended with a phenomenal season finale, we’ve seen ‘Arrow’ and ‘The Flash’ come to their gripping conclusions… even ‘Supergirl’ pulled it out of the bag for an excellent final episode.

Not to mention, we had a gripping new episode of ‘Sherlock’ and even saw sci-fi favourite ‘The X-Files’ back on our screens.

But what’s coming up?

- Doctor Who: Pearl Mackie Appears On Set
- Here’s Why The New Robot Wars Will Be Awesome
- New Star Trek TV Show: What We Know

Here are eight new TV shows you won’t want to miss:

Luke Cage

‘Luke Cage’ is back… and he’s about to kick some ass.

Following his appearance on Marvel’s ‘Jessica Jones’, the ‘hero’ also known as Power Man is getting his own TV show. And it looks as though it might finally delve into the character’s rich backstory.

Mike Colter reprises the role of Luke Cage – a former convict who is given superhuman strength and unbreakable skin as part of sabotaged experiment. Becoming a fugitive, Luke fights to rebuild his life in Harlem.

But it looks as though he’ll have to confront his past head on.

American Gods

That’s right – ‘American Gods’ is finally being adapted.

Based on the critically-acclaimed novel by Neil Gaiman, ‘American Gods’ follows the story of Shadow (played by Ricky Whittle) – a man who has been released from prison a few days early, after his wife dies in a tragic car accident. Imprisoned for bank robbery, Shadow soon encounters Mr Wednesday (Ian McShane) – the secret identity of the Norse god, Odin.

Shadow soon realises that the ‘Old Gods’ are alive and well and living among us… and there’s a war brewing between them and the ‘New Gods’ of money and technology. Can he put a stop to it all?

Westworld

It’s the future of entertainment – ‘Westworld’ is back.

Based on the 1973 Michael Crichton movie, ‘Westworld’ follows the story of William (Jimmi Simpson) – a reluctant first-timer at the futuristic Westworld theme park. Populated entirely by androids, Westworld is a safe place for people to act out their most innermost desires. Fight the local gunman, sleep with a bawdy dame… But William soon uncovers that there’s more to the park than meets the eye.

And the androids may be far more human than anybody realises.

Starring Anthony Hopkins, James Marsden and Ed Harris, ‘Westworld’ features an all-star cast. And it could be HBO’s next big hit.

Stranger Things

Imagine if Netflix made an Amblin movie?

‘Stranger Things’ is described as a ‘love letter’ to the supernatural drama of the 1980s… and follows the story of a young boy from Indiana who vanishes into thin air. Currently, little else is known about the series, except that its trailer packs a pretty heavy punch.

‘Stranger Things’ stars Winona Ryder as Joyce, who is joined by David Harbour, Matthew Modine and Cara Buono.

Lethal Weapon

Riggs and Murtaugh are back in ‘Lethal Weapon’.

That’s right – the classic 1980’s buddy cop franchise has been turned into a TV series. But don’t expect to find Mel Gibson or Danny Glover showing up. After all, they’re too old for this sh*t.

‘Lethal Weapon’ stars Clayne Crawford as Martin Riggs, with Damon Wayans as Roger Murtaugh. And they look pretty awesome paired together as the classic cop duo.

Riggs is a Texas cop and former Navy SEAL, who moves to Los Angeles after the death of his wife. And he’s soon partnered with experienced LAPD detective Murtaugh, who’s back on the job after suffering a heart attack.

The Exorcist

It may be ‘The Exorcist’ but it has nothing to do with the movie.

‘The Exorcist’ stars Alfonso Herrera as Father Tomas – a progressive, modern Catholic priest. He’s partnered with Father Marcus Brennan – a fierce, Templar knight who was raised by the Vatican to battle evil.

And it looks as though they’ll both be pushed to the limit.

College student Katherine (played by Brianne Howey) takes the place of Regan… but is the trouble teen possessed by demons, or are there other forces at work?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But it’s going to be some gripping TV.

The Punisher

That’s right – ‘The Punisher’ is getting his own series.

After appearing in the recent Netflix ‘Daredevil’ series, The Punisher quickly proved to be a fan favourite… in no small part due to Jon Bernthal’s stellar performance as soldier, Frank Castle.

But what’s in store in ‘The Punisher’ solo show?

At the moment, we have no idea… but Jon Bernthal himself recently revealed that the man we saw in ‘Daredevil’ hasn’t quite become The Punisher just yet. So it looks as though the bad-ass vigilante still has some way to go before he takes on the iconic mantle.

Still, Jon Bernthal was excellent… and this is going to be phenomenal.
