8 South MS restaurants fail health inspections, one for rodents, bugs or animals present

Mississippi Health Department inspectors cited eight more restaurants for critical violations like dirty surfaces, no certified inspector and bugs or rodents, bringing the total for the first two weeks of April to 14.

Restaurants and other food service establishments in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if all violations are corrected during the inspection and “C” if the violations are critical.

These restaurants and kitchens scored a C since April 6:

MacBe Seafood and Cafe, 13029 Mississippi 603, Bay St. Louis, was inspected for a permit on April 12.

It was cited for:

Insects, rodents or animals present

Corrected during the inspection were:

Food in good condition, safe and unadulterated

Food separated and protected

Food contact surface cleaned and sanitized.

This is the second C dating back to 2018, with the first coming in 2019.

Brookdale Senior Living, 2120 Enterprise Dr., Biloxi, had a scheduled inspection April 9. It was cited for:

Hot and cold water not available at adequate pressure.

Corrected during the inspection was:

Proper date marking and disposition.

This was the third C dating back to 2016.

El Lupillo at 1909 East Pass Road, Gulfport, had a scheduled inspection April 15. It was cited for:

No certified manager

Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized

Last inspection results not posted

This is the second C dating back to 2016, with the last one in 2017.

Cheema Foodies, 12515 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, had a scheduled inspection April 9. It was cited for:

Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized.

Corrected during the inspection was:

Proper date marking and disposition.

This was the only C dating back to 2022.

Signature Bar & Cigar Lounge, 3516 Sangani Blvd., D’Iberville, was inspected April 15 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

Improper cold holding temperatures, a repeat violation.

Corrected during the inspection was:

Toxic substance properly identified, stored and used

This was the first C dating back to 2022.

Little Caesars, 2530 Denny Ave., Pascagoula, was inspected April 15 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

No certified manager, which was also cited in April 2023

This is the fourth C since 2015.

Sweet Leaf, 1203 30th Ave., Gulfport, had a scheduled inspection April 11. It was cited for: Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible. The restaurant was inspected again the following day and scored a B when the violations was corrected.

This was the first C dating back to 2023.

Pure Country at 10166 Lorraine Road, Gulfport, had a scheduled inspection April 11. It was cited for: No certified manager. This is the first C dating back to 2021.

Most restaurants, school kitchens and food trucks inspected since April 1 in South Mississippi had no violations, with 137 kitchens scoring an A and 30 a B.
