8 Reasons You Should Never Eat Chicken Pot Pie

From Delish

Chicken pot pie is pathetic and I hate it. Unlike mac and cheese, I don't even wish that I liked it. You wanna know why? Because it's always a complete and total let down. The crust always seems to look amazing but once you dig in you're bound for devastating disappointment. Essentially, it's sad excuse or a meal and it doesn't deserve my time-or yours. Here are the only reasons you need to ditch it for good.

1. It's a sad, soupy mess.

Chicken is the best. Gravy is grand. But the gooey mixture poured into a casserole dish for chicken pot pie is an insult to both of those beautiful ingredients.

2. The veggies are subpar.

Peas and carrots? What is this, a school cafeteria meal? Oh wait...

3. It belongs in the school cafeteria.

Sure, it's quick, cheap, and easy to serve to a hundred bratty middle-schoolers. But that also means it's not something worth recreating at home.

4. The entire thing is one flavor.

Oh, you wanted a creamy yet well-seasoned dish where a bland sauce doesn't overtake everything? Too bad, chicken pot pie is here to ruin your day.

5. It's totally outdated.

This meat-pie meal might have been great when your parents or grandparents were growing up, but we have such better options now. Make a casserole that's actually worth your time instead.

6. Its origin story is horrifying.

Back in the 16th century, the British would bake live birds into chicken pot pies. And sometimes they would stuff birds inside one another first. Disgusting and abhorrent, honestly.

7. Puff pastry is its only saving grace.

When the topping is the only thing going for a dish, why bother continuing? Oh, you're just trying to cover up the mush with something pretty and perfectly flaky. Can't fool me.

8. The frozen versions are a nightmare.

Unlike pizza, pasta, orange chicken, breakfast sandwiches, bagels, and virtually everything other food on the planet, frozen chicken pot pie always turns out horribly. Everything in that flimsy aluminum pan is soupy or goopy and the crust-the only good part!-never comes out right. The photo on the package is always a damn lie.
