1. The 46-year-old is all about brows, brows, brows.

If there's one beauty trend Evans is happy the rest of the world has embraced, it's bold, beautiful eyebrows. Coloring hers in is one of her must-do beauty rituals, so now that she can really play them up, it's become like wearing a second skin. "If I have nothing on my brows, I feel so naked," she says. Her favorite product to get the job done: Laura Mercier Eye Brow Pencil in Soft Brunette.

2. She's learned how to hide annoying dark circles.

Undereye bags are a genetic curse, but Evans - with the help of her makeup artist, whom she's worked with for 16 years - has found a way to hide them. "I love MAC's Studio Fix Perfecting Stick concealer; it works really, really well," she says. "Then if I'm home and I'm forced to do my own makeup, I use tinted moisturizer - I love Laura Mercier products - and a little mascara."

3. And she refuses to go on stage with dry skin.

Evans lives in Mountain Brook, Alabama, and if there's one thing everyone knows about the South it's that it gets hot, hot, hot. Which means you basically want to live in shorts. And that's a problem when you suffer from dry skin, like Evans. "I love to wear shorts and heels on stage, but if I feel like my skin looks dry - or it looks dry even an hour after I just lathered myself - that's my biggest pet peeve," she says. Her solution? Curél's Hydra Therapy Wet Skin Moisturizer. (She's also a fan of Jergens' Wet Skin Moisturizers.) "It saves so much time [because you apply it] when you're in the shower while your skin is wet," she says. "I [also] never understood [before] that you should moisturize with wet skin. Because it just like sucks it all in and it adheres so well."

4. She sticks to the beauty basics.

"I've learned over the years to kind of stick with what works and always accentuate the things that work about you and don't try to veer away from it," she says. "Anytime I do, I don't like it - it just doesn't work."

So what, exactly, works for the singer? "Less is more," she says. "It's better for me to have kind of plain, [straight] hair - my husband tells me that men prefer straight hair - and not a ton of makeup…If I'm just at home and in a hurry, [I'll do my] brows, a little bit of brown eyeshadow, and I always line the top lid with eyeliner pencil. Then just a little bit of concealer in different places and mascara."

5. But she's experienced a few mishaps.

The mom of 7 (she and husband Jay Barker have a blended family with children from their previous marriages) has fallen victim to not-so-smart beauty trends, even with the help of a hair and makeup stylist. "We've tried super curly hair - the really curly, curly big hair - and when we used to use a crimper, that was bad," she says. "Then when the curling wand came out, it was way too much for me."

6. And she commits one cardinal beauty sin.

Evans has a confession to make: "I do try to really moisturize my face at night before I go to bed, but I'm not good at taking my makeup off," she says. "I've never really done it - I go to bed on the [tour] bus with tons of makeup on… [And] next day hair and makeup is great." While I don't disagree with you there, Sara, I hate to tell you that these 7 gross things are happening while you sleep. So maybe try a makeup removing wipe?

7. She's also picked up a few tricks of the trade.

When you work with the same artist for 16 years, you score one major advantage: They really learn what works for you. And luckily for Evans, her makeup artist also happens to be her sister-in-law, so there's no way she wants to mess up her signature look. Which is how Evans learned a few totally-genius tricks of her own. "Using the MAC concealer stick on my undereyes when I'm in a hurry - it's amazing and a lot quicker," she says. If there's more time, she opts for the MAC Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer. "It takes a little longer 'cause you have to work it; tap it in, but it's amazing."

8. And lets her daughters in on the makeup fun, too.

Both of her daughters - Olivia, 14, and Audrey, 12 - are musicians, and have grown up watching mom perform (Olivia even sings backup vocals on Evans' new album, Words, out July 21). So it makes sense that they spend their fair share of time in the makeup chair, too. "They love getting their brows done, too…[and] they love getting in the makeup," she says. "Now they both wear the same size shoe as I do, too, so [my stylist] will bring all of these clothes for me to try and all these new shoes and the girls keep grabbing them. So I'm like buying shoes and clothes and not even realizing it!"

Sorry, Sara, if I shared the same shoe size as you, I'd do it too.
