Members of the Hendersonville Fire Department, the Sumner County Emergency Management Agency, Sumner County EMS, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) worked with officers to find the body of Mervin Johnson Jr., 76, of Goodlettsville, who had drowned, according to authorities.

The TWRA said Johnson had been at the boat launch area when his boat drifted away from the courtesy dock. An eyewitness reported Johnson jumped in the water and tried to swim the boat back to the dock when he disappeared.

Officials said this marks the fifth boating-related death in Tennessee for 2024, adding that Johnson was not wearing a lifejacket at the time.
