700 people attend annual Twin Tiers Regional Job Fair

CHEMUNG, N.Y. (WETM) — On Thursday, 400 high school students from the Twin Tiers and 300 members of the local community attended the Twin Tiers Regional Job Fair in the town of Chemung and spoke to 94 companies to inquire about job availability.

Professionals from several different lines of work from law enforcement, healthcare, construction and manufacturing and more, say they’re all looking for the same qualities in job seekers.

“We’re looking for dedicated employees that want to work and want to have a strong career going forward,” said Patrick Mcnamara, senior facilities manager at BorgWarner.

“Hard worker, family culture,” said Eli Milo, employee at Nucor. “Speed and safe, safety is our number one goal and just wanting to grow.”

High school seniors who visited the career fair said it allowed them to explore different job industries and plan for their future career routes.

“It kind of helped me narrow down what I might want to do. I haven’t found the career yet, but I feel like I’m one step closer to getting it,” said senior, Bryce Maschanic of Elmira High School. “I see a lot of different careers. I think that’s the biggest positive and that’s why we’re here.”

Fellow Elmira High School Senior Ben Rhode added, “There’s a bunch of people out here looking for jobs, different kind of jobs. I think it’s a perfect place for people to get jobs and look for jobs.”

“I just kind of explore my options out there for after graduation and after college,” said senior, Andrew Potter of Horseheads High School.
