70 Va. localities eligible for SBA disaster loans

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Federal disaster loans of up to $2 million are available for small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives and most private nonprofits in 70 Virginia localities.

The economic injury disaster loans are being offered to help entities that sustained financial losses due to drought, excessive heat and high winds this year. The aid is available under a disaster declaration issued by the U.S. Small Business Administration for 62 counties and eight cities.

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced the low-interest loans Thursday.

Farmers, ranchers and other agricultural producers aren't eligible for the loans. But aquaculture-related businesses can apply for the aid.
