70-Year-Old Super Fan Takes Month-Long Trip to World Cup in a Tractor
A 70-year-old soccer fan made a lengthy road trip from his home in Germany to Moscow for the 2018 World Cup in a tractor to support his team.
Super fan Hubert Wirth arrived at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium Sunday to support current world champions, Germany, in their opener against Mexico.
“I had no problem with the Russian roads. You can compare them with the German ones,” Wirth told local outlets upon his arrival. “The police stopped me five times, but only to take pictures.”
Wirth’s tractor was made in 1936 and has 85 horse power. He can’t go more than 18.5 miles per hour so Wirth had to start his trip to Russia in mid-May.
He was accompanied by his dog in the trailer, which is shaped like a beer barrel and reads, “Hello Moscow!”
Although Wirth’s team lost to Mexico 0-1 on Sunday, Germany plays Sweden on June 23 at Fisht stadium.
Wirth plans to take his tractor to the game, and the trip could take up to a week.
