7 vehicle crash involving semitruck kills El Paso man

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Police provided an update on a multi-vehicle crash that killed an El Paso man this past Saturday, March 23.

Police say the crash included seven vehicles and a semitruck. Police identified the man who died to be Steve Carmona, 46.

Police say just before 5 p.m. that Saturday, a 32-year-old man traveling in a Dodge Ram hit his brakes due to congestion at the Lee Trevino on-ramp on I-10 East.

A 19-year-old man who was traveling in a Volkswagen Passat behind the Dodge Ram, changed lanes to avoid hitting the vehicle.

However, the 19-year-old man ended up striking a Hyundai Veloster in the next lane and as a result of being hit, the Hyundai ended up striking the Dodge Ram and a semitruck, according to police.

As a result, the semitruck blew its front tire and jackknifed on I-10 East. The semi also lost the load it was carrying.

Police say this caused another chain reaction of crashes and Carmona was ejected. Contents from the semi-killed Carmona, according to police.

Police say no other injuries were reported at the scene.

Police also say this is the 13th traffic fatality this year compared to 16 in 2023.
