8 sites to place online sports bets in NC

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – About a week and a half before online sports betting can officially begin in North Carolina, the State Lottery Commission has announced the eight companies who have been awarded interactive sports wagering operator licenses.

On March 1, people can begin registering early in anticipation of the sports betting launch, which is March 11.

The state lottery commission is the regulatory agency—and has now approved 8 mobile sports online betting sites here in the state. Many are eagerly anticipating its arrival. The Sportsbooks have spent weeks heavily promoting their arrival in N.C. and that has some eager to cash in.

As of Thursday, the state has officially licensed 8 online sports books including:

  • FanDuel Sportsbook

  • BETMGM, LLC.

  • DraftKings

  • Fanatics Sportsbook

  • bet365

  • ESPN BET

  • Underdog Sports Wagering

  • Tribal Casino Gaming Enterprise

“Right now, my preferences are FanDuel and DraftKings,” said betting fan Michael Berry. “I’m open to whatever is available to the to the state, but right now, looking at FanDuel and DraftKings.”

That legalized mobile gambling is anticipated to generate an estimated 6.5 BILLION dollars in its first year of operating in N.C. That’s a lot of money, and the state will get its cut.

“Issuing the first interactive sports wagering operator licenses today represents a major milestone in establishing legal sports betting in North Carolina,” said Ripley Rand, chair of the North Carolina State Lottery Commission.

Half of the revenue is going to the general fund and the rest will be portioned out University Athletic funds, the state’s major games and attraction funds—and even some going to the NC Problem Gambling Program.

Some worry about the way the mobile betting apps look and feel.

“If it’s mobile coins or whatever It doesn’t seem as real,” said Andrew Parker. “I mean, if you lose in a video game, it’s not as bad as if you lose $200—it’s not very good.”

If you win $5,000 or more—online sports books will withhold your federal taxes –but you are still responsible for state taxes. The state taxes gambling winnings at 5.25 per cent.
