Woman accused of shooting, killing husband near Loris over argument about finances

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A 63-year-old woman is facing a murder charge after she allegedly shot her husband to death over an argument about finances, according to Horry County police records obtained by News13.

Laura Ann Smith of Loris is charged in the killing of Michael Smith, 64, Horry County authorities said. The shooting happened Sunday evening.

Laura called 911 at about 9 p.m. Sunday after the shooting and was arrested at the scene, according to a police report. Michael was found in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to his upper chest area with blood coming out of his mouth.

The responding officer also found a black handgun on the floor next to Michael, the report said.
