60-year-old man killed in Galax mobile home fire

GALAX, Va. (WFXR)– The Galax Fire Department reports a man was killed in a structure fire on Spring Trace Lane on Sunday, May 26.

According to the fire department, units were dispatched at 7:35 a.m. to the scene, and they arrived to find smoke coming from a mobile home.

Neighbors told the fire department that a person was trapped inside and crews initiated rescue efforts to remove a 60-year-old man from the mobile home. Firefighters rescued the man and began life-saving measures.

Police find body on Garfield Ave in Lynchburg

Galax FD requested AirCare Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist to the scene to do an emergency airlift, however, it was reported the victim did not survive his injuries.

Galax firefighters were able to extinguish, overhaul, and clear the scene in 90 minutes. It was determined the cause of the fire was improperly discarded smoking materials.
