6 people missing after home fire and shooting at Pa. home
Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Six people remained unaccounted for Thursday morning as authorities started to go through the rubble of a fire at an East Lansdowne, Pa., home where two police officers were shot Wednesday night.
Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said it was unclear if the missing were inside the home at the time of the fire. Authorities responded to the home Wednesday afternoon on a report that an 11-year-old girl was being shot.
"Our fear is there may be multiple people inside that house who have died," Stollsteimer said, according to WCAU-TV. "We don't know yet whether or not we can confirm or deny that until we get inside and methodically go through the debris."
Before the fire started inside the home Wednesday, the first officers to arrive on the scene faced gunfire from the home, forcing them to take cover.
Arriving officers received shields to help move two injured officers from the scene. Authorities said both officers were listed in stable condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, one with a leg wound and the other with an arm wound.
After the shooting, the home became engulfed in flames. Firefighters were initially held back because of the previous gunfire.
