6 little dogs found in Gulf Shores now in foster or furever homes

GULF SHORES, Ala. (WKRG) — A handful of little dogs are now safe and being cared for.

“Super sweet, super loving they come right up to strangers,” Angela Eib with Angie’s Dog House said.

Over the weekend, six dogs were found near the Pine Beach Trail Head on Fort Morgan Road darting in and out of traffic.

“Weren’t really sure if they ran off from somebody’s backyard through a gate or fence,” Carl Wittstruck with Gulf Shores Police said. “They were somehow related.”

After a search, no owner was found. All six were carted off to the Police Department and scanned for microchips but none were found. Then a post on social media announcing the find quickly went viral according to Wittstruck.

“We were glad but overwhelmed by the number of phone calls from people from the community willing to help,” Wittstruck said.

Now that the 72-hour legal hold has expired, two of the dogs have found homes with members of the Gulf Shores Police Department. The remaining four are now being accessed and vetted at Angie’s Dog House. Eventually, they will be available for adoption in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut or Michigan.

“The reason we take them up north is their laws are better,” Eib said. “So often we hear but I’m a good dog owner and I’m not denying that at all. There are amazing dog owners here. The problem is the laws are not there to help the amazing dog owners.”

We may never know whether they were dumped, abandoned or ran away, but at least for now, they all have a better chance of a new life.
