6 to interview for Onsted schools superintendent role

ONSTED — Six candidates have been selected for first-round interviews to be the next Onsted Community Schools superintendent.

The Onsted Community Schools Board of Education chose six candidates to invite to interview for the superintendent position, to be open in June after current administrator Steve Head retires. The six were among a pool of 19 applicants who were presented to the board. Randy Liepa from the Michigan Leadership Institute is the consultant assisting with the superintendent search process.

The candidates selected are:

  • Ryan Cunningham, Ovid-Elsie Area Schools superintendent from 2010-22.

  • David Raleigh, superintendent of LaRue County Schools in Kentucky.

  • Jodi Ferris, principal of Pathfinder Elementary School in Fremont.

  • Jonathon Royce, principal of Charlotte High School.

  • Patrick Dillon, principal at Napoleon High School.

  • Clara Howitt, superintendent of education — justice, inclusion, equity and diversity of the Greater Essex County District School Board in Ontario, Canada.

The Greater Essex County District School Board has a director of education who is supported by nine superintendents and a human rights and equity system adviser, according to the Greater Essex website. Howitt is one of the superintendents.

The dates for the initial interviews will be announced once they are coordinated and confirmed with the board of education and are tentatively set for the week of April 8. The second round of interviews as well as site visits will be scheduled following the initial interviews between April 15-30.

Head announced his retirement at the Dec. 18 board meeting, effective June 30.

The new superintendent selection is to be completed by May 1, according to the district website.

The district plans for the new superintendent to begin their new role around June 1.
