6-7, 370-pound incoming HS freshman tweets he received Alabama offer

A kid who hasn’t played a down of high school football says he has a verbal scholarship offer from Alabama.

Kiyaunta Goodwin — a player entering high school who stands 6-7 and weighs 370 pounds — tweeted Sunday that he had received an offer from the Crimson Tide. Accompanying the tweet was a picture of himself with Nick Saban. Just look at their size discrepancy.

Goodwin may be bigger than 6-7 and 370 at this point. He was the subject of a Bleacher Report article earlier this spring when he was in eighth grade. His mother said doctors told her Goodwin could end up being over 7-feet tall. How would you like to have a player of that stature playing on the offensive line?

He bench-presses over 300 pounds and does drills during offseason training with players who spent last season playing high school football. From B/R:

Because of his size, Goodwin does not match up with players his own age during drills. Instead, he’ll go up against Stephen Herron Jr.—one of the most coveted defensive ends in the country. Herron, a Michigan commit, is the No. 5 weak-side defensive end in the Class of 2019, according to 247Sports.

“He’s going to be the No. 1 tackle in the nation,” Herron says. “It’s just not fair to be that big and that strong at his age.”

Herron’s quote is likely why Alabama made a non-binding scholarship offer to Goodwin. Especially when he’s already gotten offers from Georgia and other teams. We’re probably going to be hearing a lot about him when the 2022 recruiting classes are being finalized.
