5 people, 5 pets safe after Richland Twp house fire

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Five people and five pets are safe after a Saturday morning house fire in Richland Township.

Around 6:20 a.m., crews with the Richland Township Fire Department were sent to Hemel Lane near Decker Lane for a fire. A father had heard a loud boom after a lightning strike and went outside where he saw smoke and flames coming from the attic.

Two adults, three children, three dogs and two cats made it out of the homes safely, the fire department said.

Crews quickly worked to extinguish the fire. The fire department said that one fire hydrant wasn’t working so a tanker truck was needed.

Damages are estimated to be about $100,000.
