Suspect named in shooting that injured 5-year-old girl

UPDATE 3/12: The Crowley Police Department said they have initiated an investigation into the shooting incident where a 5-year-old girl was hit with a stray bullet, and named Linzy Thomas as the primary suspect. He is wanted for two counts of attempted second degree murder.

“He was shooting at another individual and unfortunately, the child was hit. She was hit in the arm,” Crowley Police Chief Troy Hebert said.

Officials said Thomas discharged a firearm multiple times in an attempt to harm a rival gang member, with one of those bullets hitting the child. Based on collected evidence, authorities say they have issued an arrest warrant for Thomas.

“As far as getting into deeply, we do have affiliates here in the city that are gang-related,” Hebert said. “Unfortunately, this appears to be one also.”

Hebert said his department is actively looking for Thomas, and the public’s help is being requested.

He said although there are no actual gangs in Crowley, there are gang affiliates.

“We do have some gang affiliates we are monitoring of course, and we’re keeping a close track on that,” Hebert said. “We truly plan on attacking that hard and getting rid of that.”

Hebert mentioned his department is focused on arresting Thomas so he can face justice. However, as the investigation continues, there is a possibility of other charges pending.

“There might be some other charges pertaining to this case on the individuals, but we’re going to see where the investigation leads.”

The Crowley Police Department urges anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Lindzy Thomas to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Please contact the Crowley Police Department immediately with any relevant information.
