5-year-old boy drowns in Bethel Island after being reported missing: authorities

(KRON) — A 5-year-old boy drowned Saturday afternoon in Bethel Island, authorities said. Deputy sheriffs were dispatched to a body of water near the 400 block of Halcyon Place around 4:30 p.m.

Deputies responded to a report of a missing child involved in a possible drowning, the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office said. Crews then began to search for the boy who was believed to have fallen into the water.

A diver from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District located the child around 5:10 p.m. Crews then began to administer life-saving measures.

The child was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff’s office said. His identity is not being released at this time.
