5 items you could score from Russell Crowe's divorce sale
Russell Crowe is making the most of his divorce. He also might be a hoarder.
It’s been over five years since the actor separated from wife Danielle Spencer, but the pair only reportedly reached a divorce settlement in December 2017. To commemorate the occasion, the Oscar-winning actor is having … a divorce sale.
The Sotheby’s auction will take place on April 7 — Crowe’s birthday and the couple’s wedding anniversary. “Divorce has its way of making you really examine the things that are essential in life — and the things that are not,” Crowe said in a statement released by Sotheby’s Australia. “Through the process I had a look around and realized I had a lot of stuff. Career stuff, stuff I’ve collected, and stuff in general. Boxes and boxes of stuff … so in the spirit of moving forward into fresh air, here’s a portion of that collection of stuff.”

There are over 200 items up for grabs, with the catalog including everything from movie memorabilia to watches to a Mercedes. Here are five standout pieces that could be yours:
1. Crowe’s Gladiator stunt cuirass
Crowe is auctioning off the stunt armor he wore in the scene where his character, Maximus, dies. The cuirass is estimated to be worth roughly $15,600 to $23,370 (USD). If you’re a Gladiator fan and have a good chunk of change to spare, you’re in luck. There are tons of props for sale, including swords, two life-size prop horses, and a fully functioning replica Roman chariot from the film. All items are accompanied by a letter from Crowe stating his ownership.
2. A groin protector
If you’ve ever dreamed of owning Russell Crowe’s jockstrap, then today is your lucky day! The protector he wore playing Jim Braddock in Cinderella Man is on the auction block. Crowe used it in the scene depicting the heavyweight championship bout when Braddock faced Max Baer. If you’re on the fence about whether this is for you, just know it’s brown suede leather with elastic support. It’s estimated to be around $400. It’s a steal!
3. That Robin Hood tunic
Crowe isn’t exactly taking from the rich and giving to the poor here, as this wardrobe piece from Robin Hood will set you back a pretty penny. The Templar tunic and chain mail he wore playing Robin Longstride in the 2010 movie is estimated to be valued anywhere from $12,000 to $19,500. Hey, it’s never too early to start planning for Halloween.
4. Giant mosasaur skull
Mosasaurs are an extinct group of large marine reptiles, and Crowe has the skull of one mounted on a black enameled metal stand. Display case included! Mosasaurs were prevalent during the Late Cretaceous Period, approximately 65 million years ago. They were formidable hunters, with a double-hinged jaw and a flexible skull enabling them to eat their prey whole. Fun fact: Crowe first acquired this particular skull in December 2008 from none other than Leonardo DiCaprio. The pair co-starred in Body of Lies that same year, and we really hope there’s a good story behind this exchange. A lost bet perhaps?
5. A Johnny Cash Grammy
This is the 1986 Grammy Award presented to Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Sam Phillips, Ricky Nelson, and Chips Moman for Best Spoken Word or Non Musical Recording for interviews from the Class of ’55 Recording Session. Crowe acquired it from the “Property from the Estate of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash” Sotheby’s auction in 2004. This is estimated to be the most expensive item on the list, valued as high as $233,000.
