Coroner IDs man killed after vehicle crashes into water-filled ditch

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — One person is dead and four other people were hospitalized after a vehicle crashed and overturned Monday afternoon into a ditch filled with water.

The Horry County Coroner’s office identified the deceased as 37-year-old Charleston Morris of Linden, North Carolina.

The coroner’s office said Morris was ejected from the vehicle and was an unrestrained passenger. He died of multiple traumatic injuries at the scene.

The crash happened at about 12:00 p.m. along Highway 9 near the Waccamaw River in the Longs area, Horry County Fire Rescue said. One lane of Loris-bound traffic was blocked by the crash.

South Carolina Highway Patrol said one vehicle was involved in the crash.

The driver of a 2014 Kia Sorrento was traveling north on Highway 9 when they ran off the right side of the road and overturned.

South Carolina Highway Patrol said no other injuries were reported and the crash remains under investigation.
