#5 CMU MBB is off to the RMAC Semis

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Nothing new for the top-5 Colorado Mesa Mavericks who took care of business against 8-seed Chadron State in the quarterfinals of the RMAC tournament.

It’s now off to the semifinals to take on Black Hills State Friday back at home at Brownson Arena.

But it was a different story for the 1-seed CMU Women’s team – who were stunned by an underrated 8-seeded CSU Pueblo team that proved that they’re far better than their record.

It was a rough shooting night for the Mavs – as they connected on just 5 of 25 threes. Mavs star – and 4-time RMAC defensive player of the week – Olivia Reed was in foul trouble late and the Thunderwolves took advantage.

“We needed to be able to step up and fill those shoes,” said head coach Taylor Wagner after the game. “Pueblo had us everywhere… they did a great job.”

CMU now awaits their NCAA tournament future.
