49ers sign free agent WR Carswell to two-year deal

The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday that they signed wide receiver Brandon Carswell to a two-year contract.

To make room for Carswell on the roster, the team said it has also waived tight end Cameron Morrah.

The 6-1, 201 pound Carswell signed with the Oakland Raiders in 2012 as an undrafted free agent. He remained with the team through training camp before being one of the last cuts, being released Aug. 31.

He was signed to the Raiders' practice squad on Sept. 1, but was released from the team on Sept. 12.

Carswell, 24, grew up in nearby Milpitas, Calif., and attended Southern Cal. While with the Trojans, he played in 45 games, caught 40 passes for 386 yards and two touchdowns.
