A court is in the process of appointing 18 Manhattanites to serve on the jury and as alternates in Donald Trump’s hush money trial in New York.

The methodical process unfolding in the Manhattan courtroom highlights the challenge of finding people who can fairly judge the polarising defendant in the city where he built his real estate empire before being elected president in 2016.

Several prospective jurors have already been dismissed following analysis of their social media accounts.

Legal teams for both the defence and prosecution previously told USA Today that they would check social media profiles to obtain an indication of truthfulness and intention.
