SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Forty-two people were arrested in and around San Francisco’s Tenderloin District on Wednesday, the San Francisco Police Department announced. The arrests were part of an operation to control drug use in the area.

Thirty of the 42 people arrested had outstanding warrants, SFPD said. Police did not specify what charges the suspects were arrested for.

Fentanyl and methamphetamine were seized as officers made the arrests.

“Our officers will continue to make arrests and hold individuals committing crimes accountable for their actions,” SFPD Chief Bill Scott said. “I truly appreciate our hard-working officers and our city partners for their commitment to this effort.”

SFPD says it has been increasing enforcement at night around U.N. Plaza and other places where illegal activity occurs. The department plans to continue these operations.

The United States Marshals Service and San Franciso Sherriff’s Office participated in making the arrests.
