4 incumbents lose seats on Marathon County Board in Tuesday election - one by a single vote

WAUSAU − Marathon County voters cast ballots in Tuesday's election for 14 contested seats on the Marathon County Board.

Marathon County supervisors serve two-year terms.

Here are the results of those races.

Marathon County Board, District 1

John Kroll
John Kroll

John Kroll defeated Ken Tokarz for the District 1 seat on the Marathon County Board. Current supervisor Michelle Van Krey did not seek reelection.

Kroll, 40, is a building science researcher and was chair of the Sustainability, Energy and Environment Committee and member of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee for the city of Wausau.

  • John Kroll: 669 (57.2%)

  • Ken Tokarz: 500 (42.8%)

Marathon County Board, District 3

Incumbent Kody Hart defeated challenger Jo Ann Egelkrout for the District 3 seat on the Marathon County Board. Hart, 31, is employed as deputy city clerk for the city of Wausau and has served as a member of the Human Resources, Finance and Property Committee and vice chair of the Social Services Board

  • Kody Hart (i): 244 (56.5%)

  • Jo Ann Egelkrout: 188 (43.5%)

Marathon County Board, District 5

Gary Gisselman

Incumbent Gary Gisselman defeated challenger Orlando Alfonso for the District 5 seat on the Marathon County Board. Gisselman has served 16 years on the City Council from 2006 to 2020 and from 2022 to present. Gisselman is retired and holds master's degrees in history and library science.

  • Gary Gisselman (i): 371 (55.3%)

  • Orlando Alfonso: 300 (44.7%)

Marathon County Board, District 6

Incumbent Stacey Morache defeated challenger Jeff Johnson for the District 6 seat on the Marathon County Board. Morache, 53, has served on the County Board since 2022 and is a retired interpreter for the deaf. Morache told the Wausau Daily Herald she "felt it necessary to get involved in local government to help ensure Marathon County continues to be the best place to live, work and raise a family."

  • Stacey Morache (i): 799 (58.8%)

  • Jeff Johnson: 560 (41.2%)

Marathon County Board, District 7

Deb Hoppa defeated Alec Eichten for the District 7 seat on the Marathon County Board. Current supervisor Rebecca Buch did not seek reelection. Hoppa did not complete a pre-election candidate questionnaire, so the Wausau Daily Herald does not have her background information.

  • Deb Hoppa: 444 (51.7%)

  • Alex Eichten: 415 (48.3%)

Marathon County Board, District 10

Randy Radtke defeated incumbent Donna Krause for the District 10 seat on the Marathon County Board. Radtke, 53, was president of North Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO (formerly Marathon County Labor Council, AFL-CIO) for 13 years, and is currently vice president. He is employed as lead operator in the bowl forming department at Graphic Packaging.

  • Randy Radtke: 362 (58.2%)

  • Donna Krause (i): 260 (41.8%)

Marathon County Board, District 11

Randy DeBroux defeated Bruce Trueblood for the District 11 seat on the Marathon County Board. Current supervisor Alyson Leahy did not seek reelection. DeBroux did not complete a pre-election candidate questionnaire, so the Wausau Daily Herald does not have his background information.

  • Randy DeBroux: 134 (59.8%)

  • Bruce Trueblood: 90 (40.2%)

Marathon County Board, District 14

Incumbent Rick Seefeldt defeated challenger Ken Charneski for the District 14 seat on the Marathon County Board. Seefeldt did not complete a pre-election candidate questionnaire, so the Wausau Daily Herald does not have his background information.

  • Rick Seefeldt (i): 461 (64.7%)

  • Ken Charneski: 251 (35.2%)

Marathon County Board, District 15

Randy Fifrick defeated incumbent Joel Straub for the District 15 seat on the Marathon County Board. Fifrick, 39, previously held this seat from 2016 to 2022 and is employed as Wausau's economic development manager. "We need local government representatives who are forward-thinking and open-minded who represent the best interest of the village and the county as a whole," Fifrick told the Wausau Daily Herald.

  • Randy Fifrick: 377 (56.9%)

  • Joel Straub (i): 285 (43.1%)

Marathon County Board, District 16

Bill Conway received just one more vote than incumbent Tony Sherfinski in the race for the District 16 seat on the Marathon County Board. Conway, 55, previously served as a Marathon County supervisor and currently as D.C. Everest Idea School president. He is employed as an operations manager for Northern Valley Industries. He said "the County Board should return to a model of financial sustainability and act in a responsible manner."

  • Bill Conway: 255 (50.1%)

  • Tony Sherfinski (i): 254 (49.9%)

Marathon County Board, District 23

Chris Voll defeated incumbent David Baker for the District 23 seat on the Marathon County Board. Voll, 60, has served as Kronenwetter village president for nine years and previously in the District 23 County Board seat for six years. "Then and now I believe in what the Jaycee Creed says: “Service to humanity is the best work of life,” Voll told the Wausau Daily Herald. "I am privileged to provide service to my community."

  • Chris Voll: 398 (52.6%)

  • David Baker (i): 359 (47.4%)

Marathon County Board, District 32

Incumbent Kurt A. Gibbs defeated challenger Cindy Beaty for the District 32 seat on the Marathon County Board. Gibbs, 64, has served on the Marathon County Board for the past 18 years, and the last five boards elected him as chairman. He is retired from working as an owner and operator of a tax preparation and accounting business. Gibbs said he wants to continue Marathon County services on their "fiscal conservative path."

  • Kurt A. Gibbs (i): 321 (65.4%)

  • Cindy Beaty: 170 (34.6%)

Marathon County Board, District 36

Scott Poole defeated Frederick C. Schaefer for the District 36 seat on the Marathon County Board. Current supervisor Bruce Lamont did not seek reelection.

Poole, 58, is currently employed as a legislative aide for the Wisconsin State Legislature. "I want to ensure we have a county government that operates efficiently and effectively, one that not only addresses existing challenges but also anticipates and prevents new ones from arising," Poole told the Wausau Daily Herald.

  • Scott Poole: 530 (54.6%)

  • Frederick C. Schaefer: 441 (45.4%)

Marathon County Board, District 38

Brandon Jensen defeated Jonathan D. Fisher for the District 4 seat on the Marathon County Board. Current supervisor Bobby Niemeyer did not seek reelection.

Jensen, 39, is employed as an information technology manager with 18 years of experience in leadership roles in a private manufacturing company. Jensen told the Wausau Daily Herald conversations with district residents revealed shared values that included "personal responsibility and accountability, the desire to have safe, drivable roads, to focus our spending on essential needs, and keeping Marathon County a great place to live, work and visit."

  • Brandon Jensen: 860 (72%)

  • Jonathan D. Fisher: 335 (28%)
