4 adults, 1 newborn in hospital after shooting, car crash in Auburn Gresham

CHICAGO — Four people and a newborn child are in the hospital after a shooting and car crash on the city’s South Side, according to the Chicago Police Department.

Authorities said it all happened in the 7900 block of South Wood Street, in Auburn, Gresham just after noon.

According to CPD, a 40-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were in a vehicle with two other females and a newborn child, when an unknown male began to shoot in their direction.

The victims attempted to flee the shooter and in the process, flipped their vehicle, causing them to crash into two parked cars.

Police said the 40-year-old man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair condition with a gunshot wound to the right arm, while the 37-year-old woman as taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition with a graze wound to the stomach. The three remaining passengers — the two females and the newborn — were taken to local hospitals for observation.

Police have no suspects in custody.
