4.9 magnitude quake rattles northern California Thursday evening

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday, a preliminary report of a 4.9 magnitude earthquake rattled parts of northern California.

The USGS reported the quake happening just four miles northwest of Belden, CA. A few other weaker reports came in after the initial shake, likely aftershocks. The general location of the quake’s epicenter is over the northern Sierra Nevada mountains in northern California. This comes nearly a week after a cluster of earthquakes were recorded off the Oregon Coast and just days after the massive earthquake in Taiwan.
