A charity event held by iFly Singapore on Friday (3 June) has raised $38,870 for Singapore’s disabled athletes.

Held as part of the indoor skydiving facility’s fifth-anniversary celebrations, the event saw 230 participants taking part in an attempt to set a Guiness World Record for Most Tandem Indoor Skydives in the iFly wind tunnel.

For every person taking part, iFly Singapore pledged $50 along with a flight voucher worth $119 to the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC).

Singapore Paralympic swimmers Yip Pin Xiu and Theresa Goh were a part of the team making the world record attempt.

Lawrence Koh, founder and managing director of iFly Singapore, said that iFly partnered with the SDSC to prove that anyone can fly.

“We want to show that even athletes who have a disability can come and fly so they can prove to everyone that they can do it,” he said. “I’m proud that tonight’s activities have proven that sports can and should be accessible to all.”

SDSC president Teo Koh Sock Miang said the fundraiser was a success.

“We are thankful for the support of our participants and donors, for believing in our mission of developing the potential of athletes with disabilities, and enabling them to fulfill their passion in sports,” she said.
