34-year-old man dies at Louisville Metro Corrections

An inmate is dead after an incident in a Louisville Metro Department of Corrections jail Sunday, officials say.

Richard Graham, 34, of Louisville, died after the jail's staff was notified of an alarm on a box containing Narcan inside the inmate housing area, said Jason Logsdon, a Metro Corrections spokesperson.

Graham was originally booked on May 2, but released on the Home Incarceration Program until arrested and returned to Corrections on May 18 for multiple charges.

Corrections is awaiting autopsy results to determine Graham's cause of death.

Amber Duke, Executive Director for the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, commented on the loss following recent attention to local policing with the arrest of professional golfer Scottie Scheffler.

“While there hasn’t been a death in the facility for nearly 18 months, ANY death in government custody must be met with a demand for investments in community-based healthcare services, greater transparency, and more accountability," she said.
