32% of Young People Use Social Media in the Bathroom

Tweeting on the toilet? Pinning on the pot? Facebooking while... something? You're not alone. Nielsen revealed in their 2012 social media report that 32 percent of people between the ages of 18 to 24 fessed up to up to using social media in the bathroom. While we have many feelings about this—including: have we done this without realizing? And, aren't the devices in danger of being dropped into the toilet?—Will Oremus at Slate brings up a good point. That said, Nielsen isn't very specific as to what using social media in the bathroom actually means. Perhaps what's reflected in the results of their survey is simply the youthful desire to Instagram selfie pictures in bathroom mirrors, and not necessarily tweet while you poop.
