‘300 poles replaced’: WPS provides statement on large restoration effort after early April snowstorm

(WFRV) – Officials with Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) have thanked its customers for their patience during one of its ‘largest restoration efforts in WPS history’ following early April’s snowstorm.

On Wednesday, WPS provided a statement and some details relating to the massive storm restoration after snow and strong winds on April 2 and 3 knocked out power to roughly 120,000 customers.

Officials say that more than 500 field workers from across Wisconsin and the Midwest worked tirelessly to get power back to Wisconsin residents after last week’s storm.

Calling the efforts “one of the largest restoration efforts in WPS history,” officials gave some details on just how massive the damage caused to the power grid.

Storm restoration facts:

  • More than 40 miles of power lines restrung

  • 300 poles and more than 20,000 other pieces of equipment replaced

  • More than 500 workers from across four states

  • More than 40,000 work hours completed by WPS employees and contractors

“We had an army of men and women from across Wisconsin and the Midwest working around the clock to repair the damage and get our customers restored as quickly and safely as possible,” said WPS President Mike Hooper. “We appreciate our customers’ patience and support during this restoration effort.”

According to WPS’s outage map, 29 customers are currently without service, 24 of which are in Marinette County.
