3 sets of twins graduating in top 10 at Campbell-Savona High School

CAMPBELL, N.Y. (WETM) — It’s not uncommon for a high school to have multiple sets of twins, even in the same class. But what about multiple sets graduating in the top 10 of the same class?

The Campbell-Savona Central School District’s class of 2024 has about 60 graduating students and four sets of twins. Three of the sets of twins ranked within the top 10 of the class, and each twin is separated from their twin in the ranking by one other student.

John and Matthew Dunmire are ranked two and four, Anastasia and Isabella Reed are ranked 5 and 7, and Jenna and Jalynn Machuga are ranked 6 and 8. All of the twins are competitive with their siblings to some degree but are willing to help each other out.

The Dunmires said that they’ll occasionally ask each other questions but do their work separately. John emphasized that he and his brother Matthew have worked hard individually to do so well academically and aren’t in the top 10 just because they’re twins.

“It’s not like we have twin telepathy or anything, despite what other people may believe,” said John. “I stand here for my achievements, and he stands there for his achievements.”

The Machuga twins are also pretty competitive. However, Jalynn and Jenna excel at different subjects and are willing to help the other out a little bit when needed (Jenna credited Jalynn with getting her through Spanish class).

“I think it’s definitely competitive, but I don’t think the goal is to out show each other,” said Jalynn. “I just think it’s to try to beat each other a little bit.”

The least competitive of the bunch are the Reed sisters. Anastasia said that she and Isabella push each other to do better and the two like to work together. Isabella said that the two work well together partly because they know each other so well. She added that it’s nice working with Anastasia because she knows that her sister will actually do the work.

Anastasia said that she thinks that pair works so well together because twins are always together and taught to help each other starting at a young age.

“You have to always work with them, you have to share things with them, you’re always doing things with them,” said Anastasia.

The Reeds can be a little competitive but say that the competition mainly inspires them to work harder, which seemed to be the case for all of these high-achieving seniors.

In addition to being competitive, Jenna said that all of the sets have a couple more things in common with each other; each set of siblings has a quiet twin and a loud twin, and each set decided to go to the same college as their sibling.

Matthew said that the main way being a twin makes him different from other students is it gives him a built-in fun fact when playing games like Two Truths and a Lie.

“Other than that, it’s not anything crazy, I don’t think,” said Matthew.
