3-year-old in California accidentally hits, kills 2-year-old in gas station parking lot

WOODLAND, Ca. (WJBF) – On Saturday, March 16th at 3:46 pm, officers in woodland, California were dispatched to a gas station for a report of a child who was hit by a vehicle.

According to the agency’s Facebook page, officers arrived and determined that a 2-year-old child had been hit and transported by family members to the hospital where they passed away from their injuries.

Authorities found a man at the scene who was the owner of the truck.

Through investigation, it was learned the truck was left running while parked at a gas pump. A 3-year-old child inside was in the backseat of the truck, in a car seat.

The man went into the gas station store. While inside, the toddler got out of their car seat and got into the driver’s seat.

The truck began moving forward and it collided with a two-year-old child who was near a taco stand on the edge of the lot.

Everyone involved has cooperated in this investigation. An arrest has not been made. We are working to ensure a thorough investigation is completed. This includes taking statements, analyzing evidence, reviewing video surveillance footage, creating scene diagrams, and completing investigative reports. We ask for the community’s patience while this occurs. The completed investigation will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
