1 dead, 2 hospitalized after speed chase crash in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man is dead and two others were hospitalized following a crash after a short pursuit on Friday afternoon in Fresno County, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to deputies, they attempted to make a traffic stop on a motorcycle near the intersection of McKinley and Feland Avenues in Fresno County. The motorcycle failed to yield and proceeded to flee at a high rate of speed.

A short pursuit ensued. Sheriff’s officials say just before 4:30 p.m., the motorcycle crashed into a sedan at the intersection of Shields and Valentine Avenues after failing to stop at the posted stop sign.

As a result of the crash, the Sheriff’s Office says a man and a woman, who were on the motorcycle, were taken to a local hospital.

On Friday night, the sheriff’s office said the man ended up succumbing to his injuries. The woman remains hospitalized but she is in critical condition.

The driver of the sedan, deputies say, was also taken to the hospital as a precaution, but he did not suffer any severe injuries.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office says it has been confirmed the man had an active arrest warrant on file for traffic-related offenses.

This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.
