RCMP in Whitehorse say three people are facing charges after an alleged vehicle theft and armed robbery that led to a police chase in the Granger neighbourhood on Monday afternoon.

In a news release on Tuesday, police said a vehicle was stolen from a business on Range Road early Monday afternoon, and driven off "at a high rate of speed."

Police later got a call about an armed robbery in progress at a convenience store in Porter Creek, involving the stolen vehicle. They say two armed and masked people demanded cash at the store while a third masked person stood outside.

They then fled in the stolen vehicle, RCMP say.

"The stolen truck left and drove around Whitehorse at dangerously high speeds with complete disregard for the public, nearly causing numerous collisions around Whitehorse," reads the news release.

Police used a spike belt on the road and the vehicle was finally "disabled" by police on Hamilton Boulevard. One person was arrested and the other fled on foot, into the Granger neighbourhood. A police dog helped track the suspect to a nearby residence, where they were also arrested.

The third suspect was later found in another part of the city, in another previously-reported stolen vehicle, according to RCMP. That person also fled on foot before a police dog helped track them, and they were arrested.

Police did not list the charges faced by the three people.

All of them made brief appearances in court on Tuesday.
